Bunion is enlargement of the joint at the base of the big toe. It appears as a result of the misalignment of the bones of the big toe. To be more precise, bunion stretches the ligaments and tendons around the big toe joint and the tissue, or the skin on that spot becomes inflamed and very often causes pain.

Further, over time it is possible the cartilage in the joint to break down, which eventually can lead to arthritis.

Homemade Treatment for Bunions

Very often, tight shoes, arthritis or an inherited structural defect is cause for appearance of bunions. In some cases, bunions can be developed on the joint of the little toe.

  1. Lemon Juice and Iodine

This is the simplest remedy for removing bunions. You should do two things: just mix some iodine and lemon juice and apply it on the bunions. Mix equal amounts of both lemon and iodine. You can use this mixture for treatment of heel spur.


  1. Soap and Iodine

For this treatment you need to apply grated soap on the bunions and start massaging them. You will notice that gentle soap massage relieves the pain and the inflammations that bunions cause. The next step is to wash the area and dry it out before you use the iodine.

Now, take the iodine and try to draw a web over the bunion with a small stick soaked in the povidone – iodine. The explanation why yyou should do that is because the skin on this place absorbs the iodine this way very easily.

Finally, take a pair of socks and put them on after the iodine has completely dried out. It is recommended to do this in a period of 1 month to get rid of the pain and the inflammation.


  1. Homemade Bay – leaf Solution

For the preparation of this solution you will need:

5 big bay leafs

100 ml pure alcohol (70%)

1 tablespoon Baking soda

3 liters warm water

First of all chop the bay leaves into really small pieces and put them in a bowl. After that pour the alcohol on them and leave that mixture to stay 1 week. After 7 days you should strain the leaves.

Before you use the leaves, you need to prepare a feet soak by adding 1 tablespoon of baking soda to a liter of warm water. Soak, wipe, rub the leaves on your feet, and put on some socks. You should repeat this procedure every day in a period of at least 2 months so you can feel the effects.


  1. Iodine and Aspirin

For preparation of this remedy you will need 5 aspirins or 200mg of Andol. Crush the pills and add them into 10 ml of iodine. Mix well until the aspirin completely dissolves. The mixture is ready when the iodine becomes colorless. Apply the resulted mixture on your bunions or swollen joints, and before you go to bed make sure your legs are warm.

  1. Homemade Bay-leaf Syrup

First crush some bay – leaves and after that add 1 tablespoon of them in 300ml of water. Put on pot and cook the mixture about 5 minutes on medium heat. Take an enamel pot and pour the liquid after it is done.

It is recommended to make this mixture before you go to bed and leave it stay overnight. Strain it the next morning and take a small sip several times during the day.

Important note: You should not drink this mixture at once. Instead, drink it every evening in period of 3 days in a row, take a break 1 week, and repeat again for 3 days. After about 10 days you will feel the results.
